The threat can masquerade as a simple download or an application and if released into the wild on a peer to peer file sharing site, could wreak havoc on your Mac. Without going into a lot of technical detail, the alleged virus could take control of your computer and in turn, inflict quite a bit of damage.

Should you worry about this new threat? Yes and no. The amount of virus and malware infections for the Macintosh is minuscule compared to the threats already lurking on the Internet that can trash a Windows operating system. Still, when it comes to virus protection, your mantra should always be, "it's better to be safe than sorry."
