How to Protect Your Office from the Swine Flu

The number of Swine Flu (H1N1) cases is currently fairly low however it doesn't take long for that to quickly change. The swine flu can quickly spread in areas that are congested. This includes, work, school, church or other large social gatherings. In order to best stay protected you should always consider practicing good hygiene and being cautious of your surroundings. Sometimes it is worth a bit of paranoia to avoid getting something as severe as the swine flu which could lay you out for a week or two.

One of the biggest questions people have when sick is: should I go to work today? If it is suspected that you have the swine flu it is highly recommended you stay home. We all have to make a living but take into consideration the possible damage that spreading the swine flu can do. So if you suspect you have the flu stay home until you have recovered or are on anti-viral medication.

If you are sick and must work take precautions to avoid spreading the swine flu to others. Notify your supervisor that you are ill and keep distance from other employees. When using office equipment use bleach wipes to clean the service. Immediately call your health care provider and schedule an appointment if you have not already.

In order to prevent the spread of swine flu in the office there are several precautions.

  • Hand washing should be at the top of your list. It is one of the most effective ways to prevent spreading germs.
  • Wash your hands after you blow your nose, sneeze, cough or touching keyboards, phones, door handles, etc.
  • Wash your hands before you touch your nose, mouth, face and before eating.
  • Keep a distance from people who are coughing or sneezing.
  • Stay hydrated and get plenty of Vitamin C.
  • Use a tissue to cover your sneezes or coughs
  • Use disinfecting wipes on commonly touched surfaces.
  • Cancel meetings that are unnecessary
  • Reduce stress, Meditate, and exercise regularly for better immunity.
Sticking to these tips will help protect your office from the swine flu and ensure better safety for those around you. Remember to be considerate and compassionate to those who are sick so they may be the same for you.
