The first thing that you need to do in finding public domain works is to check out the internet. There are many websites that can aid you in your search.
Once you have located a good website, search for any topics that pertain to your business. For instance, let's say you own a cabinet making company. You can use the following public domain source "Things to Make" by Archibald Williams. This e-book was published in January of 2005 and has no copyright. Obviously, Mr. Williams did not feel that he should copyright his e-book. This gives anyone the opportunity to use his information for his or her own gain. Who's to say why he did not seek a copyright; however, any information within his e-book is yours for the taking.
What would you like to do with the public domain information that you have in Mr. Williams' book? Are you interested in using it to write a book on cabinet making yourself, perhaps? If so, because this book is public domain, any information contained can be used for any type of literature, such as brochures for your company, a self-help cabinet making book, any type of booklets that you would like to create in the process of bringing more money into your business.
Any information that you find that is listed as a public domain work can be used to promote your business. This may be unfortunate to those that originally published the articles or books that were written; however, one man's loss is another's gain. You should feel free to use any of the information that you obtain.
If you do decide to use any information that you find as public domain, the most important thing you should do is to make sure you have this information copyrighted to your business. That way no one else will be able to use this information. You should also make sure that you keep the copyrights to the information, which must be renewed. Should you let the copyright lapse, you will find any information that you have used and added to go into the world of public domain.
Remember, public domain information is just that, information that can be used by the public. There are no copyrights or legal claims to the information.
You can use this information to help promote your business with no legal ramifications. What better way to increase your opportunity than to use information that is already written. It will save you time and money, which is definitely, what you want to do if you are in the business of making money!
