How to Make Use of Publicly Funded Television

Yoga Lessons Free on PBS

Nora Nick
Public Broadcasting Station, or PBS, is often quite handy in offering free lessons, from yoga to cooking. This morning I watched a very proficient yoga teacher demonstrate a yoga exercise that seemed easy enough and innocuous.

As I was sitting on the couch and feeling completely out of breath due to my various health problems, I was suddenly encouraged by a yoga instructor of PBS explaining the health benefits of yoga. I followed her quick exercise complete with movements and breathing. If you are able to walk and to sit, then, you can do this exercise without any problem. Before you begin, you should be aware that if properly followed you will have a spurt of energy that will last about ten minutes. You will find yourself cleaning up the yard and putting a pork roast in the oven. Now, that you have the motivation, here's the quickie yoga energy stimulating exercise.

Stand up and grab hold of the back of a chair. I took hold of the side of the coffee table with my right hand and the edge of the couch cushion with my left hand. Stoop until you feel your back straight across. Reach back with your right leg keeping your foot on the floor. Reach back with your left leg and hold that position for a few seconds. Bring your right leg back into a straight position. Bring your left leg back into a straight position.

Raise your arms straight up and join them over your head. Bring your arms back down to your sides. Breathe.

Take hold of the back of the chair or what I used mentioned in the preceding paragraph. Stoop again until you feel your back straight across. This time start with your left leg and reach back coming down with your foot level on the floor. Reach back with your right leg and join your right foot with your left foot. Bring your left leg back under your back and follow with your right leg. Straighten up. Reach up with both arms and join them over your head. Bring your arms back to your sides.
