In February of 2009 Hewlett Packard launched a new service called MagCloud. With MagCloud you can design and publish your own magazine at no cost. Your magazine can be as little as four pages or as many as one hundred pages in multiples of four.
MagCloud as a "Ship to Group" option that allows you to easily manage and ship to your subscribers or purchase your magazine and have it shipped to yourself. There are no minimum quantities you can order one or a thousand.
Publishing your magazine with MagCloud just takes seven steps:
1) Create a PDF - Use any program you wish to design an 8 ½" x 11" pages.
2) Upload your PDF - To the MagCloud web site.
3) Proof - MagCloud will send you one copy for proofing.
4) Publish and set price - Once proofed, publish and set the price for your magazine.
5) Buy and sell - Purchase or send to subscribers or just send people to the MagCloud site.
6) Print and mail - MagCloud will print your magazine and ship to the buyer.
7) Get paid - MagCloud pays your profits directly into your PayPal account.
By now you are probably thinking, "Well that's all good, but it probably costs an arm and a leg." Well you would be wrong. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that prices start at just $0.20 a page plus shipping. Quantity discounts start at just ten copies and shipping is also greatly reduced when purchasing larger quantities.
Your magazine is hosted on the MagCloud web site where potential subscribers can view a sample of your magazine. Buyers can purchase as many copies of your magazine as they would like, including back issues.
MagCloud is just a publisher so you are allowed to include advertisements within your magazine to help cover the costs of sample copies and the time put into designing your magazine. Your magazine, advertisements and all, will be printed on 80# matte text stock. The cover and all interior pages are printed on the same FSC-certified stock.
The introduction of MagCloud has revolutionized the magazine industry. Now the real expert, you, can publish and distribute a specialized short run magazine without the risk of losing all your retirement savings.
