How do online teacher courses work?
Instead of attending regular classes, a teacher attends for the most part, asynchronous sessions, (lesson units accessible 24/7) and reads the required coursework material. For an online teacher, this takes the form of participating in online forums, reading online journals and articles, writing up assignments, lesson plans and paper and sending them to the online teacher.
Online teacher courses are becoming increasingly popular nowadays for their convenience, easy access and availability. It is easy to build and work around an online teacher course especially for those teachers who are also parents.
Online Professional Development for Teachers
There are many online professional development courses and online resources for teachers. This is a good way to learn additional tools and skills. My last online professional development course was the NBA Advanced or the New Bagrut Assessment in Israel.
Usually, online professional development courses for teachers have forums and it is a nice opportunity to meet teachers all over the globe. This is a chance for an online education for teachers as teachers share their experiences, tips, insights and resources through collaborative projects that help them become more effective classroom managers and experts in their fields.
Contrary to what most people think, online courses can be quite personal yet the "personal" factor is questionable. Can one actually develop a significant online learner-teacher relationship? Not many online teachers want to pursue online professional development courses.
