Moving across the country or across town is not a task to take lightly. Securing living arrangements while you are in transition can be very challenging. There are many ways that you can quickly secure an apartment or home to rent. Here are some tips to help.

Knowing what you can realistically afford is very important. You should budget twenty five to thirty five percent of your income towards your housing expenses. Many rental agencies require that you earn at least three times the amount of the rent. If your rent payment is exactly three times the amount you earn, be careful that you do not overextend yourself.

Where do you want to live? Do you know what areas of town that have the least crime, traffic, and the best public schools ? If you are moving to a new city a real estate agent can be an invaluable asset. Your agent can help you to locate a home or apartment for rent in your price range in a good area. If you have no knowledge about the different neighborhoods in your city you could easily move into a large home in a questionable area with a high crime rate. It is always better to live in a home in your price range in the best area of town that you can comfortably afford. You can always make inexpensive cosmetic upgrades, to improve your living environment.

If already live in a city, and are looking for a new home to rent know exactly what you want. To save time write down everything that is non negotiable for you. You made need a two car garage, fence, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Drive through the neighborhoods that you would like to live in. Visit local real estate offices in those neighborhoods for a full list of current rental homes. Write down phone numbers off home for rent signs. See what the average rental price is in that neighborhood. Keep searching until you find homes in the lower and higher end of your price range. Search for homes for rent on the internet. Visit www.craigslist.org for current apartments and home for rent.

After you narrow down your choices, make sure that you are prepared to move. Have your down payment, first months rent, and application fee ready the day you start putting in applications. The property management company may charge you an application fee. It is best to start with your number once choice first. Then, move on if that does not work out.

Budgeting your total housing expenses is a great way to not overextend yourself. If you face an unexpected move, and can not pay a full months rent and deposit at the same time, be creative. Search out motivated landlords, who may be willing to work with you. Many landlord's would love to take their security deposit in payments, rather than face another two or three months of vacancy. Use these tips to help you quickly locate a great home of apartment for rent.
