How to Quickly Remove Oil, Sweat, or Melting and Dripping Makeup in Those Do-or-die Situations!

Dealing with Makeup Emergencies

N. Soltys
Every day women are beautiful. We spend time doing our makeup and hair each morning, and it takes a lot of our personal time to look our best. Unfortunately, the every day beauty doesn't have a personal makeup artist to perfect our look and touch-up our trouble spots throughout our busy days. Things happen to our faces every day that are beyond our control - things like sun exposure, sweat, and don't forget that the makeup we use might be slowly but surely clogging our pores!

Every now and then there's something special or important that might come up, and low and behold...your makeup is far from perfect! A quick touches and pats with your fingertip might not be enough to fix problems like oil buildup, blotching, discoloration, or clogged / caked makeup. There are too many things that could disrupt your look, and it's hard to always be prepared, so here are a few tips to help you in those makeup emergencies!

Getting rid of sweat and oil

One of the toughest things to deal with when it comes to on the fly touch-ups is the problem of oil buildup or sweat. Sweat can cake your makeup and cause it to sink into your pores and melt off, and oil can do pretty much the same thing while also letting your foundation slide off your face and become absorbed into the dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin. There's a simple way to remedy oil problems using something very effective (and all natural!); lemon juice!

Keeping a bit of lemon juice in a tiny bottle along with your makeup is a great idea if you are prone to sweat and oil problems during the day. Dabbing a tiny bit of lemon juice on a wedge sponge and letting it sit for a moment will let the juice dissolve and dry into the sponge. This will make sure that the juice won't soak up too much makeup, but it will be just strong enough to take the oil and sweat instead. Gently dabbing your problem areas with the wedge sponge after letting the lemon juice dry will get rid of any pesky shiny oils and sweat that threaten your perfect look.

Eyeliner meltdowns

One of my biggest makeup emergencies is always occurring just at the corners of my eyes. Eyeliner and mascara, no matter how much you pay for the waterproof formula, will never be completely resistant to the moisture you're bound to encounter every day. Sometimes, eyeliner and mascara will melt into the corners of your eyes and drip down, making you look tired and sloppy. Even the most resilient of eye makeup can melt and drip this way, so it's always a good idea to know what to do with it happens.

In a small empty compact, I keep a tiny bit of extra virgin organic olive oil. I also carry with me 4 or 5 Q-tips. Using a Q-tip dipped in a very small amount of olive oil, you can gently and carefully dab away any eye makeup that might be straying from it's original place. The olive oil is an amazing way to get rid of dark makeup without leaving a trail or any residue, so this is a fantastic way to remove your eye makeup and ONLY your eye makeup, leaving your foundation and powder untouched.

To fix flaking mascara

Another big problem is the tiny powder or flakes that can occur when your mascara dries on your lashes. Even the best brands can tend to have this problem, because it's caused by things that every woman encounters; sun, wind, tears, and sweat.

Using a small wedge makeup sponge and dabbing the very edge lightly in extra virgin organic olive oil, softly pat the areas that have those pesky dark dots from your mascara. As I mentioned earlier, the olive oil will mainly get rid of the darker, more stubborn makeup, leaving the color of your foundation intact and undamaged if you are gentle enough. Make sure you go extra gentle if you are using the sponge on your eyelids or just beneath your eyebrows.

Now that you're prepared for makeup emergencies, you don't have to worry when going too long without your bathroom full of goodies! Fixing and perfecting your makeup on the go is one of the most important skills a woman today can master.
