How to Quickly Treat a Sunburn

Sunshine Red
Being a redhead it seems that no matter what kind of sun block that I use it's never enough to keep me from getting sunburned. I have dealt with sunburn my whole life, for me it's just easier to stay out of the sun to prevent getting sunburn. There have been times where I was so burned that I could place an ice cube on my skin and watch it melt.

There are many products out on the market now that will help with sunburn and I believe I have tried them all. I have tried many natural products to help with my sunburn, here is what I found worked the best for my sunburns over the years.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera Plants is something that I have growing year round at my home. I just squeeze the juice out of the leaves and put it on my sunburn and it will immediately cool down the burning feeling on the skin. This is the best thing that I have found that will quickly take away the pain of the sunburn. I also keep a bottle of aloe Vera product in the refrigerator that I will use also. This isn't really a name brand item but the ingredient is aloe Vera only. It works just as good as the juice from the plant and with it being in the refrigerator it's great to feel it go on the burn.

If your eyes feel like they have sand in them from being sunburned, I use a raw potato. Believe it or not this really works. My dad taught me this trick from being a welder and getting welding burns in his eyes. Slice about a 1 inch slice of the raw potato and place it over your eyes for about an hour. There is something in the potato that will get rid of the sandy feeling in your eyes in a few hours. You can wrap the potato in a thin cloth when placing on your eye.

Over the counter medicine that I buy and use is Prompt. This can be found in many drugstores. It doesn't smell real good but does work great. It works quickly to soothe the burns.

Using moisturizers will help you heal faster after getting sunburned. I use Noxzema which cools on the skin on contact and then still moisturize the skin. If I don't have any of that on hand I will use baby oil to get moisture back into the skin.

If you have blisters and oozing blisters you will need to see a doctor. This is a serious burn. You could have sun poisoning if you are really badly burned.

While prevention is the best thing that you can do, sometimes you will get burned, and it's always good to know what does and doesn't work.
