You will need some basic supplies. Most of the materials can be purchased at your local hardware or garden center.
1 tree limb. If you don't like the natural look, you can use another piece of wood.
1 10 lb bag of concrete mix. You will not use all of this. But when you see how easy this stand is to make, you may want to do another one.
1 display container.......refer to the picture for an idea. Use your imagination. It could be an old tire if you want.
3 or 4 5" rings. You can have as many or as few of these as you want. Again, refer to picture for reference.
A bag of small river rocks
Any embellishments you may want. Garden signs, wind chimes, and bird houses are just a few. Miniature wind socks and flags look great on them too.
There are times that you may not be able to find the 5" rings. A company by the name of Driftwood Gardens in Apopka, Florida has them. Most of the time, you can find them at your local Home Depot, in the garden department.
Assembly is straight forward and very easy. You can not mess this up, no matter how hard you try. Once you have decided on your tree limb, choose where you want the plants to be. Remember to position the hooks in a stagger around the tree limb. I have found that a tree limb about 4" in diameter works great. I like them to be roughly 4' to 5' tall.
Mix the concrete and pour it into your display container. Position the tree limb in the concrete. Place the limb so that it does not lean. You want it to stand as straight as possible. Leaning to one side or the other can cause it to lose balance and fall over when the plants are added. You will have to hold the tree limb for a minute or two for the concrete to set enough for the limb to remain stationary. My advise is to wait at least 3 hours before the next step. I usually wait until the next day. I like to make sure the concrete is completely cured.
The plant rings are made with a screw at one end. This is perfect for what we want. Just screw the ring into the tree. Decided where you want a plant to hang. Now put a ring there. Make sure when you screw it in, the ring is going in at a right angle to the tree limb. You don't want the pot to be drooping or looking like it's going up a hill. Screw it all the way in. This ensures a secure base for the pot.
Pour the river rocks over the concrete to mask it. You can use any covering you want. The river rock seems to keep in theme with the natural look.
Put your potted plants into the rings. Embellish with your favorite garden signs or chimes. That is all there is to it.
You can make these stands to match your decor by adding things from your surroundings. If you collect bird houses, hang a bird house. If butterflies are your thing, add a few outdoor silk butterflies or other ones you may have.
These tree stands are perfect for the patio. They look wonderful in the house as well. You can even use smaller rings to make table size ones. Use your imagination and have fun.
