Do You Deserve a Raise?

There are many things that affect our income. Those who have built a career working for a private company have difficulties in asking for a raise, because they already have a job that brings them a significant income. But this doesn't mean that their income should remain the same just because they work for a recognized company. These companies rely on the fact that a good employee will not leave, even if the monthly income doesn't accomplish his requirements or if it is below the income he would earn by working for another company. But there are also some strategies that an employer uses to raise the salary of an employee....

Not everyone can get a higher income

Not everyone is eligible for a raise. There are people who are part of unions, and because of that, a raise is unlikely. Also, those who work for the government have small changes to get a raise, because their salary is fixed and determined by certain laws and governmental regulations.

Those of us who don't have a specific salary have to know how to prepare their superiors for an application for a raise, which must be conceived carefully. The key to get a raise is planning. Those who know to approach their boss have an advantage. It's that simple, but sometimes it can take months.

How to get a better salary

Planning means not to rely too much on chance and organize your activities, in order to follow each step of the process. First, you should check which is the average revenue received for your job in the area where you live. It doesn't make any sense to ask for a raise if it is not compatible with your work. If you are paid less than the average wage, then you have much higher chances to get what you want. Once you've verified the potential income, set a specific amount that you want. After doing this, you just have to plan the way in which you'll approach your boss. Once you have decided regarding the raise, try to equate it with your work. Write down what you have to do, in order to compare the daily progress.

How to prove that you deserve a raise

All you have to do is to show your boss that you deserve a higher salary. So you have to prove him that you understood what the company needs are, that you see things from their point of view , being part of the solution they need. Sometimes it is easy to ask for a raise. But it is not as easy to do in a manner that proves your efforts, which should be rewarded. Once you proved to the superior that your work affects positively the others, and that you make greater efforts than you should, then you will be perceived as part of their system.

If you do not have an open relationship with your boss, start thinking to a way to draw his attention, in order to get a raise. Set an informal meeting with your boss, telling him that you want to help him reach the company goals, by getting involved more. Ask him about the way in which you can improve your professional results. The idea is that you must mention about your intentions to get a raise. Ask him relevant questions, in order to gather all the necessary information for getting a raise. You can also ask your boss what you have to do in order to receive a higher salary in a few months. Once you have shown your desire to reach a certain level of performance, ask for a raise.

The raise depends on your involvement

Besides the tasks you have to perform, you must know that your relationship with the work mates matters when it comes about getting a raise. Ask yourself questions about the way you adapt to the team and what is your colleagues opinion about you. Did you have initiative in making more than you were asked? Are you perceived as a potential leader or as a person who has nothing to say? In other words, if your performance and behavior is not the desirable, then it would be better to solve these problems.

Develop a plan that can bring you an important raise; you can influence the results, so don't let things to come from themselves, by change. You must work hard to make things happen. For this reason, you need to have a conversation with the boss to ask him for a raise. You want him to tell you what to do to improve your results, in order to be strong and confident when you ask for a raise, as you accomplished what he wanted.

We are afraid to ask for a raise. This rule should be removed. The easiest way is to meet your boss, proving him that you met the objectives and you got the results desired by him. Bring arguments to your opinions with reports and other documents that attest that you worked more and deserve a higher salary.

Employees who request a raise have a greater chance to receive it, if their attitude, actions and performance determine the boss to say "yes".
