How to Raise an Australian Cattle Dog Blue Heeler

ChristyL
First some facts about the breed. This dog is a medium size working dog, it is powerful and very agile. This dog is one of the most intelligent of all the breeds. This is not a dog for an apartment they need a backyard it doesn't need to be very big just enough room to run and play. This breed is very loyal, alert, protective and will make a great guard dog. They love children but if you have small children and they are running in the yard, the dog will nip at there heels in order to herd them, so make sure they wear long pants, and this will stop as the child grows. If you want a dog like this you have to devote time to teach them. They are very smart and fast learners, they like to play, take long walks and would make a great jogging companion.

Some personal views on the blue heeler, my dog is 9 years old, her name is Bleu and I adopted her from the Humane Society at 2 months old, getting her was like having a new baby, this is how I potty trained her, when she would cry and start walking around during the night, I would take her to the grass and say "potty" over and over then when she went I would praise her it only took a few weeks before she got the hang of it, and she never goes to the bathroom in the house. She will go to the door if she wants out and will scratch when she wants in. I taught her the usual hand commands of sit, stay, come, I speak to her like you would a person, she understands a lot of words.

I have had a lot of dogs as pets but the blue heeler is one of the smartest dogs that there is.
