These are the steps that I took to make Buster's life more green.
1. Buster has a green bed
I took some old wool army blankets of my husband's that no one would ever use because they were scratchy. I sewed a couple of them together after they had been folded a couple of times to make them sturdy. I found an old, worn - out coat at a Salvation Army Store that had a lambs wool lining for $2.00. I took the lining out of the coat and sewed it on the top of the blankets; making it a nice and soft bed. Buster loves it.
2. Buster has a new line of green toys
When my husband or I have socks that get worn out, we no longer throw them away. We knot them up, and give them to Buster to play with. He loves to play with them; just like he did with his ball. He also can chew on them, making it good for his teeth.
3. Buster has green food
I cook dinner for my husband and myself, why not cook for Buster as well? My husband and I eat very healthy diets of no added fat and no unnecessary carbs. It is a very healthy diet for Buster as well, and he has no digestion problems.
4. Buster eats green snacks
Not only do we make sure Buster's meals are healthy, so are his snacks. At http://www.squidoo.com/easyhome-madedogtreats I found a lot of healthy dog treat recipes that Buster just loves.
5. Buster has a green toilet
I went online with the intention of purchasing a Doggie Dooley to recycle Buster's waste, when I can across a site that gives step by step instructions a doggie waste recycle apparatus. It is http://www.plantea.com/dog-waste-compost.htm. It didn't take my husband and I very long to make this for Buster's waste, and it is really good for the environment. When we travel, we make sure to take along a supply of biodegradable waste bags.
6. Buster has a green necklace
We usually do not keep a collar on Buster, as he has a nice fenced in back yard to play in, but when we are traveling it is essential that he have a collar and leash. We purchased these at PetCo made out of hemp. They can also be purchased online at http://www.squidoo.com/greendog.
If you give these healthy green dog tip a try; not only will your dog love you for it, the environment will love you as well.
