How to Raise Lumberjacking Super Easy in Ultima Online

T.Smith
Lumberjacking is a valuable skill for both melee fighters and crafters and gatherers in Ultima Online. If you are a fighter, you will gain +10% melee damage when you use an axe in combat. If you are a crafter or gatherer lumberjacking is required to get materials needed for crafting and for the library and museum quests. Lumberjacking can be a difficult and frustrating skill to get but it can be raised quickly by following the tips in this guide.

Raising the lumberjacking skill is incredibly slow if you walk from tree to tree whacking for logs! If you are doing that to gain skill, stop! Put your best armor on and equip a large battle axe or double axe. If you have the major doom artifact, Axe of the Heavens, it is the ideal weapon for gaining lumberjacking skill with this method. It is advisable to have at least grandmaster swordsmanship and tactics skill for using this method; anatomy and healing are also good! If you have a soul stone or soul stone fragment you can later transfer the lumber jacking skill to your crafter character.

Go to any champion spawn area and round up as many monsters as you can find and use the whirlwind special attack. The more monsters you have gathered the better this method will work and if you are using a sampire (samurai in vampire form) or whammy (samurai in wraith form) you can drain health and mana from each monster you hit and use the whirlwind attack over and over again.

Every monster that you hit with your weapon will cause a lumberjacking skill check. Each time the game checks the lumberjacking skill; there is a chance that you will gain. By rounding up as many monsters as you possibly can, you greatly increase the chances that you will gain lumberjacking skill when you use the whirlwind attack.

Once you have maximum lumberjacking skill, your melee character will be able to hit 10% harder in melee and win more fights. While 10% more damage does not sound like a lot, it can be just enough to kill someone as opposed to allowing them enough time to heal. The more damage you can deal to monsters and players the more effective your melee character will become.

The lumberjacking bonus counts on top of the 100% damage increase cap for PVP (player vs. player) allowing 110% damage. For PVM (player vs. monster) the damage cap can go up to 310%. Crafters will be able to find rare frostwood, bloodwood, heartwood and other rare woods which are sought after not only for the museum and library quests in Ultima Online but also by bow crafters and carpenters. Luminescent Fungi, brilliant amber and parasitic plants are also rare resources gathered by lumberjacking which are necessary to craft valuable artifacts and alchemy potions. Remember to use swordsmanship to raise your lumberjacking because it is much faster than walking from tree to tree hoping for a gain.
