There's no doubt about it, getting older has some benefits - you are wiser and have likely accomplished many great things. However, what most people realize is that Increasing in age can also slow down your metabolism. This is most common with women over 40. In fact, women over 40 tend to gradually lose healthy muscle mass and bone density and have decreased metabolisms. These women often find themselves not losing as much weight as they did in their 20s or 30s. Although some of this can be linked to a change in activity level or eating habits, most can be linked to a change in metabolism. So, what should a woman do? Well, many turn to the latest weight-loss programs for a quick fix. The problem however is that most of these don't work simply because they don't increase a woman's metabolism and they don't meet the nutritional needs of a woman over 40. So, although some women over 40 may lose some weight initially, this is only a temporary fix.

There are many natural ways that women can increase their metabolism, regulate their appetite and improve their diet. Here are a few:

Eat the right amount of foods for a balanced diet which will decrease the urge to overeat excessively. Never go below 1200 calories per day and concentrate on eating lean proteins, vegetables and fruit. Stay away from fatty foods which can decrease your metabolism. In addition, load yourself on metabolism boosting foods and beverages like: rolled oats, almonds, eggs, beans, spinach, mustard, and green tea.

Also, stay away from alcohol beverages.

Another great way to raise your metabolism is to exercise. Exercising is very beneficial because it raises metabolism, increases fat burning and is very good for the heart. By engaging in 4-5 days of cardio a week, women over 40 can easily achieve their weight loss goals. Some great forms of cardio include jogging, jazzercise, swimming and dancing. By staying active throughout the day, women will definitely see the results of their hard work and effort.

Drink plenty of water. Water not only hydrates your body but it also aids in the elimination of fat and boosts metabolism. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day and you will raise your metabolism as well.

In conclusion, if you're a woman over 40, you can definitely lose weight. You simply have to eat the right amount of food, exercise, weight train and drink plenty of water. Once you do this, you will raise metabolism and become a fit and fabulous 40 year old that rocks!
