Your house is your castle, no matter the effect. Working it to become what you believe it can be is just part of the process. The house that is lacking love is still a house. Transforming a broken down property into a place of interest is an art form. If you are lucky enough to possess talent of power tools, pipes and wires you can redo a house, bringing it into this century. The magic will unfold, inside and out. The search for the perfect house that has seen some years and even raised several families in it, is a treasure. You will have to act fast as these homes are being gobbled up by builders so they can level them to the ground. This makes for an impossible first time buy for many. You have to beat the builders to the sales of these older homes.
Cashing in on the oldies can be done if you are quick to the sale. Check your local real estate offices and newspaper ads. Look for a sound foundation and basic needs. Heating and water supply is a must and maybe even air conditioning if you live in a hot area. Although that can be installed. Be sure to have a professional inspection done on the property to ensure safety of your find. Look for sure signs of water leaks like stained walls or ceilings. Then you will know right off that a roof will be needed first of all. The rest can be improved with wall board and elbow grease. Time will be a factor, be willing to put in the time and the house that was neglected will become a painted lady.
Better save your trust fund and then some if you plan on being a homeowner. It's tough to save that down payment all the while searching for a home to raise a family. The crunch is on. The older homes can still be had but they are far and few between. Alot of the young newly married are living with their parents or are worst yet, renting apartments. New housing is highly rated and over budget for a first time buyer. Often the older homes have a larger lot size then the new homes. The older home just has more charm and some of them still have the original wood floors. Most of them have charming windows and beautiful entryways. Stop the bulldozer and buy an older home, while you still can. They are becoming a dying breed.
If you plan on getting married and buying a house, you should start looking for a house first chance you get. It's a long process-that could end up in disappointment. Don't plan on finding the perfect house right off. You can even search your area of interest on the Internet. Saving some walking time. Keep an eye out for, for sale signs in your area of interest.
Tell friends and relatives that you are house hunting-they can be the best source. Know that your first home won't be your last home. Your first home is just a trial house. You learn from living in it and it helps you determine what you want and don't want in your next house. Your second house will be a step up but not quite your dream house. Your third house is closer to your dream house and usually the one you live in for the longest amount of time.
Being a homeowner is an American dream, only times are getting tough making it hard to find the perfect first home. One that satisfies your needs. Start looking now and your dream home will find you.
