How I Reached Hair Nirvana with Garnier Fructis

CSO a Shampoo and a Conditioner that Really is All That

Carlye Jones
I have a real love/hate relationship with my hair. But that doesn't mean I don't have a loving relationship with my shampoo and conditioner. I've hunted high and low, tried hundreds of brands, and have finally found "the one." Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner.

I know I sound like an advertisement, but this is great stuff. The kind that inspires sappy letters telling the folks at Garnier how much you love the suds of the shampoo, the silkiness of the conditioner, and the way your hair looks after you use it.

As shampoos go, Garnier Fructis is about a mid-level drugstore product. Not the cheapest there is, but certainly not the priciest. The fact that I found the perfect shampoo and conditioner in a drug store, one that would tame my terrible fly-aways and let me comb through wind-blown tangles, was certainly a surprise. I've tried the salon stuff, and it worked fairly well, but it didn't do everything, which is what I wanted my shampoo and conditioner to do.

Garnier Fructis tames those fly-aways, actually seems to prevent the worst tangles, lets me comb out the tangles, kills the frizzies, gives it just the right amount of body, leaves my hair shiny and soft (but not so soft that it can't be styled), and smells great too. There's not many shampoos and conditioners that can do all that - in fact, this is the only one I've found that could.

I have very fine blonde hair that is fragile and tends to get dried out easily, so I use the "Dry or Damaged" formula. According to Garnier's website there are six other formulas, for all types of hair. They include: normal, fine hair, sleek and shine, color treated or permed hair, length & strength, and 2-in-1 anti-dandruff.

Even though this is a drugstore product, which means you typically have to use much more of the product than you would a salon product, a little goes a long way. A shampoo portion the size of a quarter really is enough for shoulder-length hair, and only a little bit more conditioner gives you great coverage.

The smell is fresh and clean, not perfume-y, sweet, or strong. It simply smells clean.

If you're currently using cheaper drugstore products and aren't happy with what they're doing for your hair, I'd recommend Garnier Fructis. It costs a dollar or two more up front, but you'll be saving in the end by using smaller amounts. (Not to mention that you'll have beautiful hair.) If you're spending a fortune on salon products and want to save a few dollars, or if you're like me and just not getting everything you want out of them, give Garnier Fructis a try. You'll be glad you did.
