How to Get Ready to Travel to Ireland

Alicia Bodine
When you travel to Ireland, you can tour through the countryside and stop in awe of the waterfalls. You can visit the National Botanical Gardens or take your kids to Dublin Castle. The possibilities are endless. You just have to know how to get there.

You will need:

Money
Currency Calculator
Passport
Vaccinations
Luggage
Travel Agent

Follow these steps to travel to Ireland:

Step 1:
Save up enough money to take a trip to Ireland. Once you have enough money for traveling expenses, hotel accommodations, food, tourist attractions and souvenirs, you are ready to travel to Ireland.

Step 2:
Use a currency calculator (see resources) to determine the ratio of dollars to Euro. This is important when traveling to Ireland because you don't want to get there and not have enough money to get home.

Step 3:
Decide how you plan on getting to Ireland. Do you live close enough to take a train or do you live so far away you need to fly? This will tell you whether you need to book a flight or buy a train ticket.

Step 4:
Pack as little as you can in your luggage. Your country may not charge any extra for luggage, but the airports in Ireland charge for any luggage that weighs more than 50 lbs. In other words, take only what is necessary for the trip. If you are going to be gone five days, don't bring seven days worth of clothing.

Step 5:
Make sure that you have the proper vaccinations. There are no vaccinations that are required to go to Ireland, however, there are a few you should have for your own protection. You should have two doses of the MMR vaccine, an influenza shot and Tetanus-diphtheria shot once very ten years.

Step 6:
Make sure that your passport is up-to-date. Ireland requires that your passport be good for three months beyond the date you plan on leaving the destination. That means if you are leaving Ireland in January, your passport need to be valid until April.

Step 7:
Book your trip through a travel agent. It doesn't cost that much extra to use one and chances are the travel agent will be able to arrange all of your requests in to one nice little package. This can help make sure your trip to Ireland is a fun and non-stressful one.

Tips:
If you live in London, you can just take the ferry over to Ireland.
