How to Get Ready for the New Year

What to Look Out for in 2008 and How to Survive It

So what's to come in the new year? Who knows? All we know is that every year is different. But 2008 is a year in which so many things are happening that we need to pay attention to that we just can't look away. From social security to the new president to Brittany Spears, we as Americans will have a lot of things on our mind. Here are some things you need to prepare yourself for in the new year.

Things that will be new in 2008:

The Writers Strike - " Well, it's not new; the writer's strike has been on since November 5th, 2007. This puts our shows that we love and the movies we want to love out of production. So what do we do to get ready for this? Turn off your television sets to get away from the ever-abundant reality shows and read a book. I know it sounds crazy but you can actually get information from paper with words on it as well.

Gas prices - " Could they be going down? Actually they could be. We've been hearing all year in 2007 how gas prices won't go down for quite a while. Well according to White House resources, gas prices may be going down soon. It has something to do with oil in Iraq, go figure. In fact, ever since October "07 gas prices have been falling anyway so its no surprise that they will fall even more in 2008. So save your change people. Gas prices might be lowered by pennies every month.

Social Security - So, are older people going to have money to live off of after 2020? If we get Democrat for a president, they will. And I'm not saying that because I'm not Republican. We all know the two sides are split. I'm not trying to sway your vote either. Just good luck with that sickle cell Bob if you don't have Social Security. It'll be like playing the lottery with your life. Again, save your change, you might need it later. *fingers crossed. Speaking of picking a President . . .

The presidential election - " Yep, another four years, another year of campaigning. And who shall we choose? No one knows I guess. Well, I know. There's a black man running and woman running for the Democrats. The first time in the history of the United States. For the Republicans there seems to be quite a few liberals running which is saying a lot. So who to choose? Well, I'll leave that up to you. *fingers crosses

Leap year - " Yep, it's leap year again. Be careful out there kids.

Brittany Spears - " She's bound to be all over 2008 unfortunately. And for the last time, no. I do not feel sorry for her. I do feel sorry for the paparazzo who's lives have turned to much doing what they do. And they look at me saying, "Well at least I get $200,000 for each picture I sell." And to those folks I say dignity is worth more, I think. How do we get ready for more paparazzo? Protest I say. Write a letter to E! news. And all it has to say is,"Please . . . . . . stop it." They'll know what it means.

Crazy New Year's resolutions - That'll be fun for the first week of the year again. And for some of you 3 months.

American Gladiator - " Whoo hoo! Taking it back to the 90's my friend!

So have a great new year and remember, if you can't figure out who to pick as president, just do what I do. Eat a lot of peanut butter and fall asleep. When you wake up the first person who's in your mind should be the President. Even if it's Matthew McConaughey.
