Working alongside another business can of course be challenging, but just remember that the positives far outweigh the negatives.
You could start small, perhaps working together with another local yet indirect business to create something like a local community project. Just think of the rewards you could reap by bringing something positive into your local community.
Collaborating with another organization could help you raise credibility, help you win larger contracts, and it could even perhaps gain you new customers and prospects along the way.
Working together with a non competing business can build and enhance your reputation; it could also bring trust and loyalty to your brand name, especially if you link together with a reputable, honest, well known, local company.
So then, how do you about this, well, firstly start of by deciding what project you would like to do, and what you could offer. Once you have worked this out and written a plan, start narrowing down possible business partners, do a search of your area, look through your contacts and talk to businesses to gage interest. Try to find a business that compliments you but doesn't overshadow you. For example if you run a printing business why not get in touch with events organisers, hold a community event, get them to organise it, you produce the printouts, flyers and so on, and away you go. The result will be increased visibility, and awareness of your business at a reduced cost.
After finding a suitable business companion I would then advise drawing up a contract with regards to who will fulfil what responsibilities and when. Having a contract in place at this early stage will stop any conflict of interest or arguments between the parties arising.
Next you have to go about putting the wheels in motion; deciding what you want from this partnership and making it work. Remember it will not be plain sailing working with another company who may operate in a different fashion to yours.
To maximize your partnership and your success as a team, ensure you both maximise press releases, articles and other related mediums.
