How to Recreate Spring's Nude Makeup Trend on Fair Skin: Common Pitfalls to Avoid

Applying an Everyday Brown and Nude Makeup Look on Cool & Fair Skin

Elizabeth V. Miller
Recent spring runways have been filled with nude makeup looks. Marie Claire lauds the style as "a breath of fresh air." Without being the "monochromatic face of the '90s," Spring 2010's trend embraces a clean and natural look, but leaves the "boring beige" behind.

Recreating a nude makeup look is easy and can produce great results, but we everyday women with fair skin will likely want to take note as to avoid the common pitfalls associated with sticking to brown and nude makeup shades. With a few minor adjustments, we'll be able to create a look perfectly tailored to complimenting our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses.

1. Using a Little Bit of Black Eyeliner or Eye Shadow is Okay

If you're as pasty white as I am, you might also find it hard to look alive without reaching for a few black makeup products during your application routine. Cool skin tones, in general, take well to using black in addition to just brown. Consequently, even when I'm doing an overall nude look, I still add small touches of black where necessary. In addition to applying brown and nude shadows, I thinly line the outer halves of my top lids with black eyeliner. And, I still reach for my black mascara to finish things off.

2. Bronzer is Still Your Friend

Avoiding the undesirable "monochromatic face," as Marie Claire dubbed it, is also key in looking naturally beautiful opposed to simply looking like you're dead. Apply foundation as needed, and consider lightly using a bronzer to contour the face and highlight desired regions such as cheekbones.

3. Straight-Nude Lips is Negotiable

We fair skinned girls don't actually need our lips to be skin-colored if we don't want them to be. Prompting your health to be questioned is not the end goal; hence, if using a pink-tinted nude color will make you feel more comfortable, go for it. The idea of the trendy nude makeup look is to feel fresh and beautiful. Whatever specifics get you there is quite alright.
