Use #1- Carry Impotable Water in Plastic Cat Litter Jugs In Your Car Without It Splashing Out
It's easy enough to use a sprinkling can to water a few plants outside. But what about when you need to transport water a far distance? A sprinkling can doesn't work well then. Just rinse out and recycle a few plastic cat litter jugs to transport impotable water instead. The molded handles make them easy to carry, and the screw-on lids keep the water from splashing out. I use plastic cat litter jugs to take water to my family's grave sites to give the live plants a drink.
Use #2- Store Clothespins On Your Laundry Line Using Plastic Cat Litter Jugs
For several years, I used a plastic bucket to carry clothespins to and from my laundry line outside. I'd set the bucket on the ground, then lean down to grab the pins. Besides being a literal pain in the back, sometimes I'd accidentally kick the bucket and the clothespins would go flying. I finally decided to recycle a plastic cat litter jug to store my clothespins in. I cut a large hole in the middle of the jug. I then unhooked one end of my clothesline and placed it through the molded handle. Now, the clothespins are right at my reach. I just slide the plastic cat litter jug ahead of me as I hang laundry on the line.
Use #3- Mix Up Plaster or Water Putty In Plastic Cat Litter Jugs
I needed a large container recently to mix-up some plaster and some water putty. So, I cut the side out of a plastic cat litter jug. I was able to stir up the water and the dry mix, then reach in with a wide putty knife to apply the plaster (and later, the water putty). When I was done, I rinsed the plastic cat litter jug and put it in my bin. I'll drop it off at my local recycle center.
Use #4- Store and Spread Salt and Ice Melt In Plastic Cat Litter Jugs
I buy salt and some brands of ice melt in plastic bags. The bags are difficult to hold while you spread the contents out. And storing the open bags is messy. I pour the salt and ice melt in recycled plastic cat litter jugs. I use a permanent marker to label the contents so I know which is which. Now, it's easy to grab a recycled plastic cat litter jug and head outside to spread salt in my driveway and ice melt on the cement areas during the winter months.
Use #5- Store Sand or Cheap Cat Litter in Your Trunk for Winter Traction
It's annoying to be driving along in the winter and suddenly hit an icy patch. One small patch can stop your car and leave the wheels spinning. Recycle a plastic cat litter jug and use it to store sand or cheap cat litter in your trunk. That way, you won't find yourself stuck any more. Throwing some sand or cheap cat litter under the wheels can give your car the traction to get moving again.
Use #6- Hold Used Motor Oil In Plastic Cat Litter Jugs
When I change the oil in my tractor, lawnmower, motorcycle, et cetera, I put it in recycled plastic cat litter jugs. The motor oil is then ready to take to a local recycling center.
Warning: Do not use plastic cat litter jugs to store gasoline in. Use only approved
red plastic or metal containers. You can recycle cat litter jugs in a lot of ways, but not for storing corrosive, flammable liquids. Cat litter jugs and gasoline cans are both made of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene), but the latter is made with much thicker plastic.
