Self-Watering Can
One of the best ways to water plants is by a slow irrigation system. Recycled milk cartons work great for this purpose! Take an empty milk jug and using a nail, scissors tip, or other pointed object, carefully poke several rows of holes in the bottom of the jug. Fill the jug with water and place it near plants you want to slowly water. You can make a number of these recycled self-watering cans and place them sporadically around your garden.
Seed Starting Container
Cut off the bottom 4 inches of a milk jug. For drainage purposes, poke some holes in the bottom of the jug. Fill the jug with potting soil or seed starting mix. Plant your seeds and allow them to grow until they are big enough to transplant.
Slug Bait Watering Hole
This is an ingenious water to recycle plastic water jugs! Cut off the bottom 2 inches of a milk jug. Press it firmly into the ground until the top rim of the jug is level with the soil. Fill with beer and watch what happens when those pesky slugs come for a drink!
Watering Can
So simple! Poke holes in the lid of a milk jug. Replace the lid onto the jug. Fill with water. You have a recycled watering can complete with handle!
Potted Plant Saucer
Do you have potted plants on a deck that need saucers to catch the water? When you buy them from a gardening store, eventually they get filthy from the dirty and stagnant water and end up being thrown away. You can recycle your milk jugs to use as plant saucers by simply cutting off the bottoms of the jugs!
