How to Recycle and Repurpose Old Campaign Signs

Emily Harmon
They fill yards multiple times a year: campaign signs. But what happens to all of those campaign signs after the election? Sure, some politicians do recycle them, either just as typical paper recycling or as future campaign signs. Most homeowners, however, put their campaign signs in one place---the garbage. Don't throw away your campaign signs! Old campaign signs have plenty of alternate uses. Here are some ideas for how to repurpose and recycle your old campaign signs.

Yard Sale Signs. Old campaign signs can easily be transformed into the perfect yard sale advertisement. Just spray paint the old campaign signs and then paint your yard sale information on the front. You won't have to worry with trying to hang the signs since they will already be well-equipped with yard stakes for easy anchoring.

Party Announcement Signs. Whether you're having a birthday party, bridal shower, or an anniversary get-together, old campaign signs make perfect announcement signs for your yard. Just like the yard sale signs, old campaign signs can be painted to reflect the occasion occurring at your house. Your guests will think you had custom signs created just for the party, and they will have no trouble finding where the party is located.

Birth Announcement Signs. Proud parents and grandparents love to adorn the yard with announcements when a new baby enters the world. Save some money and go green by recycling your old campaign signs for just this occasion. Add the announcement, along with some fun shapes such as baby rattles and storks and you'll have the perfect birth announcement signs for your yard.

Donation to School PTO. Many school parent teacher organizations would love to get their hands on old campaign signs. These old campaign signs work perfectly for shuttling parents to the right location during busy events, announcing upcoming programs, and reminding parents of important dates. Parent teacher organizations are all about saving money so recycling old campaign signs is right up their alley.

Church Donation. Many churches would also love to get their hands on some old campaign signs. Churches can use the signs to advertise vacation Bible school, announce upcoming revivals, or encourage guests to join their special Easter service. Check with local churches about recycling your old campaign signs before you dump them.

Don't let your old campaign signs end up in a landfill. These sturdy yard signs can easily be repurposed for a variety of uses! With a little paint, and a little creativity, your old campaign signs will be the perfect advertisement or announcement for a variety of events.

These are all great ideas ~ wow, never thought of donating them to the schools, especially those corrugated plastic ones which hold up real well.
