Go to a thrift store or Good Will, and try to find some artsy stuff, or paintings. Something that'll look good on the wall or hanging somewhere. Fill up space when walls are completely blank.
Want a big clock? Sometimes we can't find the exact color we want for a big clock, or if we do it's usually too expensive. Buy anyone that you like visually; don't mind the outside color. Then, if possible, take it apart (at least the outside border). Buy some spay paint; the color that you want it to be, and spray away! Let dry and hang!
Make your own art! This can be a painting, sculpture, or something really random! I bought about a dozen or so mixing sticks (I think that's what they're called!), spray painted them two different colors and put them together in a random design.
Try to find an ottoman. You can use this as a coffee table in your living room. It's a great way to mix it up a bit and try something different. You can also place a serving try on top, or place some kind of mat on top so you can put drinks and other items on without it falling over!
Have just a plain kitchen/dinning room table? Cover it up! Get something fresh and new. Not something just plain and bold. Something funky and retro, or a color you wouldn't normally see or use.
You can also cover up your couch, or if you already have a cover, change the color! If you can't find the color you want, or if it's too expensive. Buy some fabric dye and dye it the color you want. You might have to do this a couple of times, depending on the fabric.
Throw some pillows on there while you're at it. Try to find some of those smaller size floor pillows, so when everyone's on the couch and still need somewhere to fit, you can grab that pillow and sit on the floor. If you can't find any, use seat cushions! If they have any of those tying strings on them, you can simply cut them off.
Paint can be expensive, but luckily you wont need a large amount of it! Chose an accent wall and paint it with the color you desire. This can make the room seem bigger and more spacious. Plus, it'll add a little color!
Hang a mirror. Light reflecting off mirrors is another way to make the room look bigger. If you have a fireplace, and if you don't have your TV or anything else hanging there, a mirror is a great way to put something up there. Or you can hang it on your accent wall.
Candles are another great, smelly and cheap way to add some color and space to your rooms. Try using big round candles on a table, or several tea light candles as your center piece.
Rugs! There are some really great beautiful looking rugs out there. Even if your home is carpeted, a rug can still give that last touch to it that it needs!
Lamps, plants and other "standing" things is a great addition to rooms and giving it a new fresh look.
