If your electricity bills are through the roof, and you are looking for ways to reduce the amount of electricity used in your household, check out these methods to help lower your monthly payments.

The first and most notable way to help save electricity in your house is to turn electronics off when they are not in use. This ranges anywhere from the television, to the stereo, to the ceiling fan, all items that can burn up electricity little by little if left on when not in use. Similar to electronics, your lighting in your house can eat up power if left on, so if it is a sunny day outside try opening a window rather than leave the living room light on all day.

Besides turning off electronics not in use, you can unplug those electronics that are only used on rare occasions. Even if an electronic is plugged into the socket in the power off position, it is still using up power. Although you won't save as much energy and electricity by unplugging a guest room TV that is rarely used as you will by turning off a ceiling fan whenever you leave the house, the energy saved does add up.

After you have checked into limiting your power consumption through plugs and controlling when an electronic is powered on and off, you can check into green ways to save electricity. Replacing higher watted light bulbs with lower energy saver bulbs is a great way to reduce the amount of power consumed when a light switch is turned on. The majority of lighting fixtures in todays modern homes can operate with the same relative efficiency with a lower watted bulb as a higher one, saving you money on your electricity bill, and reducing your carbon footprint. In cooperation with changing out the light bulbs, reducing the time spent with the lights on is great for lower energy bills, so try opening up a window when the weather permits.

Similar to the benefits of limiting your time spent with the electric powered lighting on, you can also benefit from limiting your time spent with the air conditioner running. Opening a window on a moderate sunshiny day is a great way to help give your house some fresh air, and limit your energy dependency on electrically powered window units and central air systems.

Overall doing basic things such as turning off a TV when you leave the house, and opening up a window on a weather nice day, can help you reduce your monthly electricity bill, and save you money in the long run.
