How to Reduce Food Cravings When Losing Weight

Elizabeth Pou
Every year I make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight. Usually, I don't stick to the resolution for very long because I start having strong food cravings. Food cravings are an urgent, intense, strong desire for a certain food. I don't really start having food cravings until I change my eating habits to more healthy food. Well, I made the same resolution this year to lose weight but I wanted to make sure that I follow through with my resolution. I'm going to share the tips that have really helped to reduce my food cravings.

Scheduling meals has really helped to reduce my food cravings. Actually, I took it step further and prepared meals in advance so that I can maintain my food schedule. I plan my meal out for the week or month and schedule the meals for every three hours. I eat three regular meals and three small meals. For example, I might have a piece of fruit or yogurt three hours after dinner. I notice that eating meals on a schedule don't really give me a chance to feel hungry. I know some people don't want to eat until they are hungry but that's a bad idea. Also, scheduling meals helps keep the metabolism up so that you can lose a pound. Moreover, it's really important to eat breakfast every morning and to eat three meals a day.

Chewing sugar free gum is really helpful at reducing cravings. Also, the gum comes in different flavor. For example, if you are craving strawberry cheese cakes take out a piece of strawberry gum. In addition, you can carry gum with you anywhere so it can take care of any unexpected hunger urges. Sometimes, when I'm shopping at the mall I'm tempted by the aroma of the food from the food court. I will just slip out a piece of gum to take my mind off the food. Gum is inexpensive and helps reduce food cravings.

Water is very good for the body and you can never drink enough water. If you start to feel food cravings then grab a cup of water. The great thing about drinking water is you can drink as much water as you want. Also, drinking water helps with taking off the pounds. Moreover, it's really important to drink 6 to 8 cups of water a day.

These tips will help anyone to keep their New Year's resolution to lose weight. Also, these tips will help fight those food cravings. It really takes being organized, eating the right foods and exercising to lose weight.
