How to Reduce Fossil Fuel Consumption with DIY Alternative Energy

Zac Linzmeier
If you are like many Americans then you are probably becoming more and more aware with the numerous downsides of fossil fuel consumption such as global warming, dependence on foreign oil rich nations and the ravaging of our own country in order to yield coal and oil. If you want to reduce your personal fossil fuel consumption and not break the bank to do so then your best bet is to go with a DIY alternative energy option.

The most common DIY alternative energy option for reducing your personal fossil fuel consumption is do-it-yourself solar panels. Solar panels are a tried and true technology that can greatly reduce your used household electricity which is, in most cases, derived from coal burning power plants. Solar panels emit no harmful byproduct as they simply convert the sun's passive rays into a form of energy that your home's power grid can use. Although installing a roof array of solar panels is pretty costly you now have some DIY options. These include purchasing a guide and materials on the Internet and building your own solar panel unit from scratch as well as purchasing kits either at a home improvement store or on the Internet and assembling the unit yourself; in either instance there is a substantial amount of money to be saved.

Another option for DIY alternative energy in order to reduce your fossil fuel consumption at home is to go with a DIY wind turbine. The idea is the same here, reduce or eliminate your use of power generated from fossil fuels and instead power your home simply by the force of the wind. This may not be possible in all areas due to zoning restrictions but for the most part you can at least build a small scale unit and somewhat reduce your traditional power consumption. Your DIY options here are the same as with wind turbines, instruction guides and videos are available on the Internet as are kits that are ready to be assembled.

A final alternative energy option that can greatly reduce your fossil fuel consumption is HHO technology. This became very popular recently under the brand name 'Water4Gas' and is basically a technology that allows you to create small water fuel cells to partially power your car and double your gas mileage. This technology, just like the others, can also be purchased as instructions and built yourself or purchased as a kit. In some areas you may even find a mechanic shop that specializes in these conversions, although the process itself is really quite simple.

Hopefully now you have learned how to easily and affordably reduce fossil fuel consumption with DIY alternative energy options.
