Other than Palmer's Scar Serum, there's also a Cocoa Butter which is a powerful antioxidant that reduces the look of scars. I had heard that the Palmer's Scar Serum was stronger, which is why I used it but I did think that the Cocoa Butter smelt much nicer.
If you slather Vitamin E on the healing wound, it will also help reduce the look of scars. Of course, this should only be done after the wound has healed so that you don't get a nasty infection. Needless to say that an infection would scar you up and any scar reducing cream or lotion worthless. By putting on a lotion or serum rich with Vitamin E, you'll help the skin heal which should make you more comfortable and rapidly reduce the look of that new scar.
Some people recommend opening up a liquid capsule of Vitamin E and spreading its contents over the scar. I personally could not stand the smell, but other people swear by it! By doing this very direct method, the vitamin can go through the dermal layer and prevent the development of granulomas scar tissue from forming while allowing healthy cells to continue developing.
An anti-inflammatory also helps and for this, some people turn to Shark Liver Oil. It comes in a spray or a tube. I have not tried this product, but they generally get positive reviews online.
Another way to help prevent the long term look of scars is using sun block on them! Scars can tan and darken like the rest of the skin and the darker they are allowed to become the more noticeable they will be in the long run. By putting on sun block and reducing their exposure to UV rays you could keep them light so that they blend in better with the rest of your skin tone.
If none of these work or your are still dissatisfied with the look of your scar, then you may need to consult a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon to see if surgery or some type of laser treatment could help you.
