Dim the Light on Netbook or Notebook or Laptop Screen

Net books and notebooks have gradually grown popular. These lightweight gadgets are the first choice of students and professionals. Notebooks and netbooks have re-defined gravity and weight. These are so light and small that they can easily fit into a small handbag or a schoolbag. Most of these notebooks and netbooks do not have an optical drive and other additional features but serve well for browsing and making notes or assignments.

Staring at the computer, laptop or notebook screens for long can cause your eyes and vision to blur due to strain. Hence, it is a common advice to look away from the computer screens occasionally to relieve the strain to your eyes. Interestingly, if you reduce the notebook's or computer screen's brightness, then it does not cause the glare or strain to your eyes.

If you are using a notebook or netbook or a regular desktop, you can go to the control panel and type for power options in the search box. Alternatively, you can also type "brightness" in the control panel's search box. In either case, it takes you to the power option window where you can select the brightness settings.

In the power options, select "change plan settings" next to the "Balanced (recommended) setting. As you select it, you can see the options based on battery and plugged in variations. Further, you can select dim the display option for the plugged in. You can dim or increase the brightness as per your requirement.

I use an Acer Aspire One and it is ideal for writing, browsing and chatting. Though there are no optical drives, you can always connect an external drive using the built in USB ports. Since it felt glaring to the eye while writing articles at night, it checked for the dim light option.

After browsing online about reducing screen brightness, many solutions mentioned using the function key along with F5, F6 or F8. None of those seemed to work for me. Hence, I thought to search for the same in the control panel and found this easy solution. Maybe you can try it the next time you wish to write, read or work with less glare and more comfort to your eyes.
