Potpourri is a lovely, versatile decorating tool. It brings a lovely scent to any room. And, you can use a container that matches your d©cor and also match the color of the ingredients to your room. Here are some tips to help you freshen up your dry potpourri so you can use it for a much longer period of time.

It is very easy to refresh dry potpourri, both the color and scent. If the colors start to fade from age or exposure to direct sunlight, add a few more dried flowers. Mix them in well so they will be evenly distributed throughout the entire mixture.

Most of the time, when people are worried about refreshing dry potpourri, they are referring to the scent. This will fade over time. Even though the essential oils are extremely long lasting, their scent will still fade with time. This is to be expected. It does not mean you have done something incorrectly when making the potpourri.

To refresh the scent, there is a simple solution. All you need to do is to add more essential oil. Be sure to use the same oil you used when you made the potpourri or the scents may blend into something unpleasant. However, if the remaining scent is very weak, or even gone completely, you may want to try an different essential oil to get a new scent for your room.

The main question is how much oil is enough. That is really a matter of individual taste. But, just remember, you can always add more, but you can not take any away. So, start with a small amount. Stir it into the potpourri gently. Keep adding small amounts and stirring them thoroughly into the mixture to get the right amount of scent for your particular tastes.

You can also try to stir the potpourri before you put any new essential oil in to the mixture. The small twigs and petals will break a bit and this could let out more scent. The oils that you used to make the potpourri will have soaked into all of the ingredients. And, breaking them up a bit may let out more of the scent.

No matter what room you have your potpourri in, you want it to continue adding a lovely fragrance to the air. Adding more essential oils to the mixture or even just stirring it up are two quite simple ways to get more of the beautiful scent in your rooms. Hopefully these tips will help you have lovely smelling potpourri for as long as you wish.
