How to Regain the Speed of Windows Vista and XP

It is inevitable that Windows Vista and XP will become slow and possibly become so slow that your computer may be unusable. Here are some tips that will hopefully get your WIndows Vista or XP running fast, like it was when it was freshly installed on your computer. However, you might have to reinstall and wipe your hard disk to regain the original speed of WIndows Vista or XP if none of these solutions work for you.

The most obvious suspect to making Windows run slower, especially on XP, is spy ware and viruses. A simple virus and spy ware check with Norton anti virus or another similar program should be effective enough to diagnose and remove these types of problems. Viruses and spy ware can severely damage your computer in the long run so its best to catch them early and take the proper steps to remove them and scan your computer regularly.

Another thing you want to do is check your hard disk for errors. You can do this by clicking on your hard disk and then clicking on properties, and then check for errors. Hard disk errors are a major reason for WIndows XP or Vista runs slower then it should. Hard disk errors and hard drives failing may be the biggest reason Windows Xp and Vista run slow, so make sure to check your hard drive.

Hardware conflicts are another reason, so check your device manager to make sure that there are no conflicts and uninstall the necessary software. Open up MSCONFIG from the start menu and go to BOOT.INI and make sure there aren't many unneeded programs on there.

Uninstall as many programs as you can that you aren't using. This is another culprit for slow running of Windows. You should also invest in a registry cleaner to clean your registry as this often gets full and corrupted by old programs. Many of which you don't even have anymore.

If all else fails, then you probably have to reinstall or have a severe hardware failure, if a reinstall doesn't even work. In which case you would need to take the proper steps needed to fix the hardware that is failing. Reinstalling and completely wiping the hard drive and being extremely careful with what you put on your computer the next time is probably the best way to get your Windows software running the way it was when your computer came new out of the box. If nothing else is working, don't hesitate at all to reinstall. I know it is a pain, but in the end it is worth it.
