How to Relax and Relieve Stress During Pregnancy

Sabrina Young
During pregnancy it can sometimes be difficult to find time and ways to relax. Back aches, acid reflux, swollen legs and ankles, and nausea during pregnancy all create roadblocks to truly relaxing and getting the rest that you need for your pregnancy.

Try these stress relieving pregnancy tips below.

Light some incense or candles and listen to some soothing music to relax and relieve stress.

Find a quiet corner in your home and light some soothing candles or incense. Relax by putting on some soft classical, jazz, or world music and finding a spot that you can rest your body comfortably, whether your bed, a recliner, or a rocking chair. Close your eyes, and let your sense of smell and the music relax your mind slowly.

Enjoy light yoga or a slow stroll in the part to relieve pregnancy symptoms.

If your physician has given the okayed light exercise during pregnancy, you might find that your nausea might disappear when you get some fresh air, or that your leg cramps and stress can be stretched away with some pregnancy appropriate light yoga. Remember to monitor your body carefully during pregnancy, and do not overdo any physical activity. If you have other children, take them to the local playground and try to enjoy the fresh air while they play.

Relieve stress by spending some quality time with your girlfriends.

Enjoy a light lunch or fun afternoon of shopping with your girlfriends to relax and relieve stress. Laughter is the best medicine, and what better way to relieve stress than hanging out with your best friends? If you and your girlfriends have children, maybe suggest getting together at someone's home or a local park instead. Try to avoid stress inducing places that involve too much noise.

Enjoy a soothing massage to relieve stress.

A soothing and soft massage from your significant other or a masseuse can relieve stress and help your tired body to relax. Remember to take into account your expanded midsection and request a special table that has room for your pregnancy belly.

Being a pregnancy journal.

Find a quiet place and record your thoughts and emotions during your pregnancy. You might want to fill the journal with words, or clippings, or drawings of this special time in your life. If you have other children, try to make time to relax during the morning hours, during nap time, or when your children are in school.

Spend quality romantic time with your significant other to relieve stress and relax.

Enjoy talking and being with your significant other emotionally as well as physically (as best as you can manage!) Maybe find a favorite mutual activity, go on a romantic date, or enjoy giving each other a soft massage in the dark. If you have other children, you may have to schedule this time, but be sure to spend time with your significant other each day throughout your pregnancy.
