How to Relieve Back Pain During Pregnancy

Jim Posey
Back pain during pregnancy is almost universal considering the large amount of physical changes that are occurring in your body. The added weight of carrying a baby and the healthy baby fat that you should accumulate makes your back have to work harder than ever in order to support your frame. You have to consider that there is actually a change in your center of gravity when you are pregnant. This will trigger changes in your pelvis region; loose joints, poor posture, and add to your stress. This all occurs at a time in the body that's hormonally unfortunate. However, there are many lifestyle changes that one can employ to ease back pain during pregnancy.

If you are not already exercising than you should adopt a routine to keep you active during your pregnancy. This will allow the body to stretch and receive a new level of relaxation when you are finished. For pregnant women whose back pain is cause by stress, exercise ill be a particularly effective remedy. There are many exercise routines that are tailored to pregnant women and an added benefit is that it will help you be more prepared for child birth. Water exercises, done in a pool, are great because they have virtually no impact and help strengthen your muscles. Make sure to consult your doctor before starting any type of exercise routine.

Posture is another fundamental factor of back pain during pregnancy. You have to be sure to wear comfortable shoes that are flat. Your shoes should be low heeled and comfortable to wear. When in pregnancy women tend to adapt a poor posture because of their body is carrying so much extra weight. Posture does not come easily; you have to constantly remind yourself to keep your shoulders up, back, and down. Adapting a proper posture will go along way in lessening back pain during pregnancy.

The position that you sleep in can also have negative effects on your back pain during pregnancy. Sleeping on your back will provide unnatural pressure to be put on your spine and should be avoided. Ideally one should sleep on the side of the body with a pillow to support your knees and to provide your body with ample support during your sleeping time. Try it one night, and notice the big difference that it makes the next day on your back pain during your pregnancy.
