How to Relieve Body Aches from the Flu

It is Possible to Help Ease the Pain of Body Aches During the Flu

When you have body aches from the flu, you are more than likely to feel much worst than if you did not have them. When you do start feeling the body aches, the first thing we want to do is get rid of them as fast as they showed up. Unfortunately, getting rid of them completely is probably unrealistic, you can however do certain things to relieve the body aches from the flu.

If you are suffering from body aches cause by the flu, one of the first things you need to do is run a hot bath. The hot water from the bath will help to eliminate the body aches that you are suffering from. Nothing is going to completely take them away, but it will help to lessen them somewhat so that you can do something other than lay in bed all day.

Taking over the counter pain medication is another way to help eliminate the discomfort from body aches associated with the flu. Medications such as aspirin, Tylenol, Advil or Aleve, will help you get through the worse part of the body ache aches. Read the directions on the packages for the recommended dosage. Do not exceed them either. Sometimes when you over medicate, it back fires and makes things feel even worse.

Have someone give you a massage where your body is aching at. Most of the time when you get body aches from the flu, your legs are the first thing to bother you. Ask your spouse or a friend to give you a leg or body massage. If your legs are bothering you, have them rub mentholated cream on them as well. This will allow your blood to flow freely, and give them some heat to soothe the aching.

Lay on your bed or couch with your legs propped up high on a pillow. Again, your legs are usually the first things to bother you when you get aches from the flu. If you lay down and prop your legs up over your heart, you will allow the blood to flow freely through your legs, minimizing the aches and pains you are feeling.

Heating pads or heated blankets can help to relieve some of the pain caused by body aches. If you have a couple of heating pads, lay yourself on the couch or a bed and place them wherever the aches are. Same goes for the heating blanket, turn it to a medium heat, and crawl underneath and enjoy it. Do not use excessive heat, you could burn yourself, which in turn will cause you more pain.

If you have a jacuzzi or a hot tub, get inside of it immediately. The heat from the hot tub water will relax all your muscles and make them feel somewhat better. Stay inside the hot tub or jacuzzi, for as long as you possibly can. The more you stay inside of it, the better you and your body will feel.

As I have said many times, if you have the flu and you are experiencing body aches, these remedies will not take them away completely. They will however help minimize how uncomfortable body aches can be. The flu is a nasty bug that can last anywhere between one to two weeks, and you will have to bare with it, letting it takes its course on you.

Warning : If you are feeling dehydrated, lethargic, dizzy, hot flashes, hard to breath, excessive sweating, and a high fever over 103 for over two days, please see a physician immediately.
