Having inflamed and swollen sinuses can be very painful. In addition to pain, sinus pressure can cause severe headaches, not allowing you to function in your normal day activities. When this happens, life is miserable and you probably wonder why this happens. Essentially, the sinuses get inflamed and infected for various reasons. Allergies to things in the air, weather and even food can cause Sinusitis or sinus pressure. Ear, nose, and throat specialists can help you discover the cause of the infection. However, before you get a chance to see your doctor you will needs some basic remedies to help you get through the pain. These are only a few of the best home remedies out there to relieve that sinus pressure and pain.
Liquid Diet
Starting a minimal liquid diet or basically going on a water diet can allow you to see if the infection is food related. Once you start, if you find relief, then you know that it is something you have been eating. Start resuming your normal diet, by only adding a few amounts of foods at a time until you discover what is causing the symptoms. You can also go to an allergist and they can help you discover the cause.
Mineral Supplements
Taking mineral supplements or multi-vitamins is a great idea, along with taking Vitamin C and Vitamin A. Your health provider can give some additional suggestions on vitamins or supplements to take. Ensure that you try to eliminate stress and promote proper digestion to also help alleviate symptoms.
Herbal Remedies
Some herbal remedies that can also help are yarrow, goldenseal, garlic, and elderflowers. Most food stores sell these herbs in droplet form. Simply place some of the drops in water and drink daily. Food stores are a great resource for sinus sufferers and they may have other additional herbs to suggest in the treatment of sinus pressure.
Aromatherapy
One of the best and immediate reliefs of sinus pressures and congestion is aromatherapy. Mix a few drops of peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender oils on a small tissue and sniff. These can offer immediate relief while you wait for sinus decongestants to start working.
Steam
Another time-tested therapy for sinus pressure is steaming. Inhale steam by bending over boiling water with a towel wrapped over your head to catch the steam. The heat helps open up the sinuses and relieves the pressure and congestion.
These methods are not meant to replace the care given by your health care provider, but can alleviate some of your pain and distress until you are able to visit with your doctor.
