How to Remain Calm and Relaxed Under Pressure

Pressure can kill the best intentions and put a whomping big hurt on the potential for success. Those who can stay cool under pressure are likelier to succeed when the going gets tough than those who go shopping under those conditions. Feel free to substitute do drugs, drink alcohol, run screaming into the night or cry like a baby for shopping. The point is to face the pressure head on by doing what it takes to reduce the stress. So what can you do to reduce the effects of pressure?

Relaxing Music

Stress and pressure that envelopes you when you are some place where you can feel free to play some relaxing music is easier to fight back then stress and pressure that comes down on you when this isn't an option. Pressure felt really is pressure felt: the brain responds to stressful situations in a physical manner. You can combat this untoward pressure experienced by the brain by playing some relaxing music. A bit of Mozart or Muzak or Michael Jackson may all that you need to deal better with the effects of pressure keeping you from achieving success.

Deep Breathing

Sucking in deep breaths within your body and then slowly exhaling can do wonders for your body as well. Pressure can be lessened by the very act of taking some time away from the pressure inducer itself. Add to this pressure release mechanism the very real fact that taking a deep breath sends a signal to your body to release some chemicals that can assist in your efforts to get past the disadvantageous effects of stress.

Visit Tahiti in the Mind

You would be surprised at just how much pressure can be fought against merely by taking a vacation in the mind. Close your eyes and picture yourself in the vacation spot of your dreams: the beaches of Tahiti, the ski slopes of Aspen or even coming up to Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney World and discovering there is no line at all. Imagining yourself in a locale where all the pressure currently pressing down upon you is no longer existent can give you just the rush of security you need to head down the final stretch with renewed energy.

Eat Right, For God's Sake!

Eating a balanced diet can help you alleviate the intensity of pressure. A diet high in complex carbohydrates that gets you away from caffeine and sugar can create an almost Zen like acceptance of reality that allows you to head to work without the threat of pressure lingering over you like the figure Donald Trump as your boss. Make sure your diet is high in B vitamins or get yourself some supplements. Vitamin C also shows promise as way to help relieve the stress associated with pressure.

Meditate

You don't need to head to the Learning Annex or the nearest Buddhist temple to learn how to meditate. Meditation is simply a deeper and more concentrated form of relaxation. Look up some meditation lessons on YouTube or buy a book or just do it freestyle. Meditation as a way of escaping stress is most effectively achieved by doing it away from the location that is the epicenter of your stress inducing pressure. Find yourself a convenient spot away from the hustle and bustle that is comfortable and induces a feeling of serenity.

Recognize Signs of Stress and Pressure in Your Body

Pressures built upon the foundation of stress are realized in the form of increased tenseness in your muscles. Train yourself to be as acutely aware of the tensity of your muscles as you are traffic patterns or the latest results of your favorite reality show. Pressure can be enacted upon the body not just through making your muscles tenser, but in the form of nausea, sweating, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, the urge to urinate, nervousness, irritability and shaky limbs. The more you get to know how your body responds to increasing pressure, the earlier in the process you can take yourself out of the situation and put one of the above recommendations to effective use.
