Turkey sandwiches & an afternoon biking. Make your thanksgiving day an active one and get off of the sofa from watching football/the Macy's Day Parade. While you will still have your turkey, just this time between buns, adding in an afternoon at the park riding around or even just playing Frisbee will be something the whole family can enjoy. If you are really on the lazy side, just stop by Subway or Quizno's on the way to the park instead of making your own turkey sandwiches.
Deep-fried turkey & French fries at the beach. Though it does not sound exactly healthy, it is still very well an alternative to the traditional stuffed turkey and mashed potatoes. All one needs are breadcrumbs, egg batter, and a skilled to be able to fry the turkey. French fries can be made by hand or straight from the freezer bag. Nonetheless, spending a day at the beach, though it may be cold and windy, is a unique way of spending Thanksgiving Day together. And the turkey is not left out.
Turkey & Cranberry ravioli at the campgrounds. Do something un-thought of: go camping on Thanksgiving Day. Leave the marshmallows at home though, and substitute with a pot and gas powered portable stove top to cook the turkey & cranberry raviolis you made at home. The recipe can be found here. This remix of Thanksgiving retains two of the most important elements of the traditional meal: the turkey and the cranberries. Though it seems easier to resort to turkey sandwiches or fried turkey when going camping, the preparation and cooking of the raviolis makes you feel as if you were still back home.
Turkey salad watching movies at home. We have all heard of chicken salad, leftover diced chicken breast plus mayo and scallions. Why not try it with its cousin, the turkey? Add this touch of protein over your favorite salad and sprinkle with cranberry raisins. Healthy and a quick fix, it is sure to be the most talked about Thanksgiving for weeks to come. Rent movies instead of watching football and you have yourself a pretty nontraditional Thanksgiving Day.
