Step 1: Check to make sure that the material underneath the construction adhesive is non-porous. Materials such glass and acrylic are good candidates.
Step 2: Scrape away the construction adhesive using a razor blade at a 45 degree angle. Be careful when using the blade: it is easy to accidentally cut yourself.
Step 3: After a few strokes, wipe off the blade with a paper towel to remove any construction adhesive particles.
Step 4: Change razor blades often, as soon as the one you are using loses some efficiency. Continue until you have removed as much of the construction adhesive as possible.
Step 5: Apply a light coating of rubbing alcohol to the construction adhesive using a spray bottle. Let the alcohol stay on the surface for 5 to 10 minutes before proceeding.
Step 6: Scrape the construction adhesive once more, using a razor blade at a 45 degree angle. You can reapply rubbing alcohol as necessary to aid you in the removal process.
Step 7: Wipe the area with a damp cloth and water once you have removed as much adhesive as possible using this method.
Step 8: Apply a generous coat of mineral spirits onto the surface of the item you have been cleaning, focusing on the area with the construction adhesive residue. Wait 15 minutes.
Step 9: Buff the area with a clean cloth, removing any construction adhesive residue that remains.
Step 10: Clean the area completely with a damp sponge to remove any mineral spirit residue and allow it to dry completely.
