Well I have a way for you to remove that sticky gum from your favorite clothing. This method will even remove gum from your upholstery and carpeting. Get ready to say "goodbye" to that nasty little mess.
What you will need:
Ice cubes
A bowl
Some kind of scrapping tool (like a butter knife)
Freezer access
Yep. That is all you need to get rid of the gum. Here we go.
Step 1 - First you need to pick off as much of the gum as you can. You do not want to have a huge gob of it sitting there while you are trying to get rid of the little bit stuck to whatever it got stuck to.
Step 2- Now take the ice cube and hold it to the gummy spot. You may want to hold the ice cube there with a towel because you will need to hold it there for several minutes. If you hold the ice with your bare fingers that long, let's just say you are going to have very cold fingers. Some people cannot even stand to touch ice that long.
If you are dealing with a piece of clothing, it is generally easier to place that piece of clothing in a bowl of ice cold water for several minutes. But if it is not clothing or something you can place in a bowl, like a couch or rug, you will obviously need to use the wonderful "holding the ice cube" technique.
Step 3 - After you have held the ice cube on the gummed up spot or placed in a bowl of ice cold water for the several minutes, you will take out your scrapping tool. Proceed to scrap the gum spot with a butter knife (or whatever you may be using). If you do not notice the gum flaking off, you may need to allow the spot to become colder. Place an ice cube back on the spot or put the item back in the ice cold bowl of water for a couple more minutes.
If you get the gum spot frozen enough the gum should just peel right off, so you can try to peel it off before scrapping it with a butter knife.
And that is how you remove gum from clothing, upholstery, and/or carpeting!
