Hairspray
When I first found out that hairspray was effective at removing ink stains from leather upholstery, I was rather sceptical and doubted that it would work to remove the ink stains left on the leather upholstery of my car. But it is actually a very effective way of removing ink stains from leather. Start off with a clean cloth and a bottle of your usual brand of hairspray. It does not have to be an expensive brand for this method to work. Spray some of the hairspray directly onto the leather upholstery and leave it for a few moments to dry. Use the cloth to wipe off the hairspray and a second cloth that is slightly damp to remove the stickiness of the hairspray from the leather upholstery. The hairspray will gradually fade and then lift the ink stains. A second or third application may be required, depending on how stubborn the ink stain is. Be careful not to rub too hard.
Rubbing Alcohol
Most households have a bottle of rubbing alcohol on hand that can be used to clean cuts and scrapes and other minor incidents. But rubbing alcohol can also be used to gently help lift ink stains from leather upholstery. Add some rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and rub it into the ink stain.
Before using any type of home remedies to remove ink stains from leather, test a small area that is not clearly visible to test for colourfastness. It is easier to remove ink stains that are fresh rather than older stains, so act quickly if you discover ink stains on your leather upholstery. Resist the temptation to rub harshly in an effort to remove the stains. While the removal of the ink stains from the leather upholstery is very important, you should also try to protect the leather finish.
