In some cases an update or glitch to a program may prevent the program for being accessed or seen on the system. Yet the faulty program still exists on the device taking up valuable storage space. You can remove these "phantom programs" fully in one of two ways; either on the device or through Active Sync. These instructions can also be used to remove a normally functioning program that simply is no longer needed.
Tap on the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Select "Settings" from the list of options. Note that if you have your home screen laid out differently the "Start" icon might be located in another corner of the Pocket PC screen.
Select the "System" tab under "Settings" and locate the "Remove Programs" icon. Tap this icon.
Scroll through the list of programs until you find the one you want to uninstall. Tap the desired program and tap the "Remove" button. Restart the device if prompted. If the program can not be located under "Remove Programs" proceed to Step 4.
Connect your Pocket PC to your computer using the Pocket PC dock or USB cable. Wait a few seconds for the "Microsoft Active Sync" program to launch. If it does not automatically launch click on "Start" followed by "All Programs" and locate the "Active Sync" folder. Double click on the program inside the folder.
Click on "Tools" in the top menu bar in the Active Sync program. Choose "Add/Remove Programs" from the drop down menu. Scroll through the list and click on the "check box" next to each program you want to remove. Click on "OK" to remove the programs.
You can use this method to free up valuable space on your Pocket PC's storage memory, allowing you to add new and up to date programs to your device. Note that Windows 7 users may experience a slightly different process as Active Sync may not be used on all Windows 7 systems. These instructions work on multiple versions of Microsoft Windows including Windows XP and Windows Vista.
