I started getting them when I was pregnant with my first son. And I got even more of them when I was pregnant with my daughter 4 years later. They're not only annoying. They're downright ugly. I wanted to remove the stretch marks now, not later.
How does it happen?
Stretch marks happen when a person's skin gets stretched out too much. This usually happens when a woman is pregnant, a person becomes overweight, or the person loses weight very quickly.
Some of the stretch marks caused by my two pregnancies did fade from dark red lines to silver looking lines. A good cream to use right after delivering a baby is the Tretinoin cream. This usually works best on fresh stretch marks. Contact your doctor to see about getting a prescription.
Do not use Tretinoin cream if you're still pregnant or breastfeeding because the active incredient may be passed on to your child.
Another method is exfoliating your skin everyday with a loofah when you're in the shower. I never liked the feeling of the loofah but it helps to remove dead skin cells.
Vic's Vapor Rub?
I haven't tried this next method yet but my sister-in-law told me that what helped her get rid of her spider-like stretch marks was rubbing Vic's Vapor Rub forcefully into her skin with a face towel. I didn't like the awful smell of Vic's Vapor Rub but it seemed to have helped my sister-in-law even though she smelled like a medicine cabinet.
How about a bath?
For those of you who like to be pampered, taking hot baths and massaging the affected areas in a circular motion also helps.
A friend of mine also told me what what helped her was breaking open the Vitamin C capsules and rubbing the oil from the vitamins into her skin daily for two weeks.
Of course, if you have money to spare, you can go get microdermabrasion which is a popular procedure typically done in spas and salons. This procedure removes the top layer of skin using a chemical. You can also consult a dermatologist about laser therapy which can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
