How to Remove Wallpaper

John Messina
There are two types of wallpaper, vinyl and paper. The vinyl wallpaper will be easier to pull of the wall and won't require as much work as with a paper wall covering. Either way you will need to purchase the material listed so that you can completely remove all the glue from the wall. Any glue that is left on the wall will cause your paint primer to bubble.

Material and Tools:

Wallpaper remover solution
Pail
4"-6" wallboard knife
Perforating tool
Large Sponge
Floor covering

Step1:
Mix the wallpaper remover solution with water in a pail as directed by the manufacture. Then pour the wallpaper remover mix into a solution sprayer.

Step2:
Using the perforating tool; cut into the wallpaper and make cuts from top to bottom of the walls.

Step3:
Spray the solution mix onto the wallpaper using a fine spray. Let the spray soak into the paper for the amount of time directed by the manufacture.

Step4:
Using the wallboard knife, start to peel away the paper from the wall.

Step5:
Apply remover solution to a sponge and wipe off all the excess glue from the wall. Repeat this process if necessary to remove all the glue from the walls.
