How to Renew Your Books from the Boise Library Online

Maggie Blake
The city of Boise has a fantastic public library system that is utilized by many residents of the city. Library card holders of the Boise Library are generally allotted three weeks to enjoy the books they have checked out, and two weeks for video or DVD's. Sometimes three weeks is not enough to finish reading the books that have been checked out and Boise Library card holders find that they need to keep them a bit longer. The good news is that the Boise Library allows its card holders to renew their book check outs. In fact, books from the Boise Library can be renewed more than once, if necessary.

While having the option of renewing books checked out from the Boise Library is very helpful, library card holders can find themselves in the predicament of needing to renew, without having the time to run up to the library to do so. That's okay too, because fortunately, the Boise Library allows its library card holders to renew their books online! Renewing your books from the Boise Library online is a quick, easy process. So if you have books checked out that need renewing, these directions are for you!

It's as simple as accessing your Boise Library account online - In order to renew the books that you checked out from the Boise Library, you need to access your library account online. To do this, you must have your library card physically in front of you.

Once you have your library card, simply go to the Boise Library's website at boisepubliclibrary.org. When you are on the homepage, you will see a list of menu links in the left margin of the page. The top menu link is Account, click on it. A menu will drop down and the first choice is Check My Account, click on it. A log in page will now appear, asking for two things. The first, is your 14 digit library card number. To find this number, flip your library card over to the back, and you will see, near the center of the card, a line of 14 small numbers in a row, directly beneath what looks like a UPC barcode. This is your 14 digit library card number, so type this into the appropriate field on the library login page.

Next, you will be required to type in your personal identification number. Unless you have specified otherwise with the library, your personal identification number is the last 4 digits of the phone number you used on your library card application.

Take a look at your account overview - Once you have typed in your correct 14 digit library card number and corresponding personal identification number, you will be taken to an account overview page. Here, you can see a summary of how many items you have checked out, whether or not any of them are late, and any holds or library fines you may have.

Now, renew your books - Across the upper part of the account overview page, you will notice a dark blue bar across the screen. Within this blue bar, there are 5 links, each allowing you a different option. Second from the left, is the checked out/renew link. Click on this link and you will be taken to your itemsout page. All you need to do now, is check the box to the left of each book you'd like to renew, and then click on the small gold colored renew button underneath the list on the left. Once the page refreshes, take note of the new book due dates on the right side of the page. You've just renewed your Boise Library books online!
If you encounter problems, just call the library - If you can't remember your personal identification number, or if you encounter other problems while trying to renew your books online, just call the Boise Library (main branch phone number is 384-4076) and a librarian will assist you.
