How to Renew and Restore Your Front Porch Bistro Set

Malina Debrie
A beautiful compliment to any porch or patio is a Bistro Set. They can range in price from lower hundreds to thousands of dollars. Even with a purchase of $100 you do not want to just throw one away to purchase another. Restore your set to it's pre- weathered condition or even enhance the beauty by using a few tips from this beginning home project restorer.

Remove All Rust, Dirt and Debris

If your Bistro Set has been in the weather long enough, it has probably rusted or is beginning to rust. If so, the rust must be removed before painting or preparing it for paint. Inspect the set thoroughly for signs of rust. If there is any rust found, you must remove the rust first by sanding. Make sure all the rust has been removed from the surface by sand awaying the set down to the metal. After the rust has been completely removed, you may now clean the set to remove all remaining debris. Rinse the set with water or if necessary, soap and water. Allow the set to dry before proceeding to the next step.

Prime the Set

A primer is exceptional when preparing to restore your Bistro Set or any wrought iron. Purchase a primer especially made for metal. The right primer will not only enhance the way the paint sets on the set, it will also prevent future rust from occurring. In addition, paint will extend the lifetime of your set. If your investment is worth holding on to, make sure it has been primed before being placed out for use.

Paint Using a Paint Specifically Designed For Metal

Hundreds of paints and colors for almost any home improvement project are available. For little or no cost, you can paint your Bistro Set using one of the new features in your home improvement design section. Hundreds of colors are available that can be added to compliment your home, your surroundings, your greenery or even your interior decor. The sky is the limit when it comes to paints available and their uniqueness. Be careful though to use a paint that will not only enhance, but protect the finish. Purchase an acrylic water based paint designed to prevent weather damage.

Personalize Your Bistro Set

After completing your Bistro Restoration project, you can personalize your set even more so. Add a few designs, names, even add a few features to your set. A bird print or design. A baby carriage added to the side to enhance or make a statement. Personalize your Bistro Set and maximize it's beauty!

Brilliant work Melina. You know, the timing of this is very good for us. We are in preparation stages now, but its the back porch instead. Great suggestions. You've made our job easier.

I do not live a luxurious enough life (except maybe in my head) to use this article, but, nonetheless, it's very useful to many others. Nice work!
