Credit, credit, credit! It doesn't matter how many times we say it and I can't stress enough how important it is. Credit is a recurring theme that many of us and typically a credit issue arises because someone has taken a hit, often from something they had no control over, like unexpected medical expenses but society as a whole frowns upon it. When it causes a snag in your life, it may seem overwhelming. The information below will help in educating yourself and be "prepared" when it comes to tending to your credit.

We all hear that the way to start a business or buy a property can be helped along if you "think outside the box." In a separate article I will get into some creative financing methods to both buy real estate but also finance portions of a small business venture. Even with a tangle in your credit, you can work things out. Most of us do not have the luxury of not living without asking for credit from a lending institution and it is key that you manage your credit properly.

You can also educate yourself about the "ins" and "outs" of maintaining credit levels that enable you to do what you want in your life. Understanding how credit works helps you respond to issues that arise. It's easy to get started, by taking the following steps:

Check out www.annualcreditreport.com and pull your credit report for free once a year. This is required to be offered to each consumer by law. Make it a practice to check out your credit periodically to make sure no surprises crop up just when you need there to be none. Thirdly, If you locate any inconsistencies, jump on getting them resolved before they blow up into bigger issues. You can do that by filing a dispute claim with the credit reporting agency, in accordance with the procedure they spell out on their web site. The three major credit reporting agencies are TransUnion, Equifax and Experian. Since agencies are required to investigate disputed claims, you can get the ball rolling by alerting them to a discrepancy. Once an investigation is complete, erroneous credit hits will be removed or corrected if you provide sufficient proof that they are invalid.

None of us are immune from credit problems or the stress they can cause. With the holidays upon on, you need to be conscience of your spending habits and be smart. Rather than getting down on yourself, thinking that past difficulties will run your future or that "the world" is against you needs to be a thought of the past. You may have a bumpy road with higher interest rates or higher down payments or even worse, being denied on everything that you try to purchase from a home to a vehicle if you do not maintain your credit. Be smart, live within your means and don't put this off..do it today!!
