One of the most common problems that you'll run into with a gas stove or a gas grill is clogging of the burner holes after repeated usage. Manufacturers know that these parts will eventually clog and that there is little or nothing that can be done to prevent it. Therefore they produce replacements for the clogged or otherwise damaged units, simplifying repair.
Step 1
Shut off the gas leading to the grill or stove from its connection at the main gas line. If the broiler you are repairing is on a conventional stove, you will have to pull the stove out from the wall to gain access to it. On a gas grill, simply close the LP tank's nozzle.
Step 2
Vent the additional gas in the stove's lines by turning on a burner other than the broiler you will be replacing. It will take only a moment for the gas to siphon off. If you are working on a gas grill, remove the grill grating at this time.
Step 3
Trace the main gas line on the broiler to the brass nut that holds it in place. On some systems, you may have to lift the broiler up slightly to access this nut.
Step 4
Loosen the brass nut with an adjustable wrench until the broiler comes free. When it is free, pull upward to release it from the gas line.
Step 5
Position the new broiler over the gas line and carefully thread its brass fitting onto the gas line threads. When you are certain that the fitting is not cross-threaded and spins easily on the threads, tighten it down with the adjustable wrench.
Step 6
Turn on the gas for the stove or grill, and then listen carefully for the sound of a gas leak. You will be able to smell if there is a leak, as well. If you can detect a leak, try tightening the brass fitting a little more. If there continues to be the sound of a leak, shut off the gas and return the broiler unit to the store from which you bought it for a replacement.
