Step 1: Detach or stop the electricity feeding into the light fixture. For lamps, simply unplug them. If the light fixture is wired into the house's electrical work, turn off the circuit that services that particular fixture.
Step 2: Remove the light bulb from the light bulb socket. Detach the light fixture from the ceiling and wall if necessary. To complete this step, remove the screws that hold the fixture in place. Then detach the wiring of the light fixture to the wiring of the house by unscrewing any wire nuts.
Step 3: Remove the pieces of the light fixture that conceal the complete base of the light bulb socket.
Step 4: Remove the old light bulb socket by cutting the wires that attach the socket to the rest of the fixture. Cut as close to the socket as possible using wire cutters.
Step 5: Remove the insulation from the ends of the cut wires, exposing about 1/4-1/2 inch of bare wire. Form a hook with the bare wire, using needle nosed pliers or your fingers.
Step 6: Loosen the screws on the terminals of the replacement light bulb socket. Place one hook on each terminal, and tighten the screw to secure the connection.
Step 7: Cut away any excess wire from the connection with the wire cutters. Snap the light bulb socket into place so it connects with the light fixture.
Step 8: Replace the decorative covering on the light fixture. Add a bulb and reattach it to the electrical source.
