How to Request a Raise or Promotion

You Don't Just Get Up in the Morning and Determine to Ask for a Raise. You Need to Prepare it Well.

Believe me: Many bosses don't know what you do on a daily basis, so you need to speak out about your success, achievements, meeting targets and deadlines in different modes. Like, "incidentally, I thought you might want to know that we just completed a super big project and the managements were very satisfied."

Or another tricky way to do it is by praising your group. You can compliment them as much as you want without showing that in fact you are talking about yourself.

When the time comes to mention your raise or promotion, you need a reason to do so. For example, don't say "I have not had a raise in a while". This is not a reason, but I just completed my master degree and I am your top producer for the last half year or took additional duties and responsibility to get the job done and over the hump or you got a job offer for millions of dollar or from your competitors..." would be a good reason.

Now, if you don't have a reason. Don't discourage just create one. Do something that make your boss looks good to his superiors learn new skills or handle additional responsibility above and beyond the regular demand show your earnest in the success of the company.

Make an appointment with your boss with a reason of discussing your career not raise or promotion, and ask what else you need to do. By asking that, it will be harder for your boss to deny your promotion or a raise. So either he will give you the raise right away or will tell you what to do in order to get one.

With all the above in place, if your boss is not prepared to get you a raise, you need to be prepared to leave.

Remember, that even a small increase will be significant, as all future raises, benefits, and bonuses will be based on your new salary.
